Granville memorial

On Saturday 18 January 2025, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales and Mr Dennis Wilson, as Official guests attended a Memorial Service in memory of the victims of the Granville Train Disaster, at the Granville Train Disaster Memorial Gardens, Granville. Also in attendance playing at the event was our 2024 most improved piper, Alan Harris.

This was the 48th Anniversay of the tragedy. On 18 January 1977 at 8.10am, a lue Mountains train eached Granvlle and left the rails just before Bond Street Bridge. The derailing caused it to hit the bridge staunchions, bringing down the 170 tonne structure onto the trains thrid and fourth carriages. There were 83 deaths and 213 injuries, 83 serious. It took rescuers 31 hours to remove the last body from the twisted metal.

Thankyou Alan for a great job.
