Bundanoon Becomes Brigadoon

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you wOn Saturday 01 April 2023, the Penrith RSL Pipes and Drums attended their first Major event by taking part in the 43rd Bundanoon Highland Gathering. Participation in the event was by invitation only with a limit of 25 bands. Bands were selected on a “first come basis” and if bands failed to respond by the cutoff date, they were automatically excluded.

Pipe Major Andrew Iverson and Pipe SGT Mark Spooner led a relatively inexperienced team of 12 people to a very successful event starting with the main street parade. With 20 minutes to the commencement of the march, the heavens opened up and the day looked grim. But as if by script, with 5 minutes till we stepped off, the weather broke allowing thousands of people to line the roads. This made the march to the main oval a wonderful and memorable experience with people dancing, singing and clapping as each band progressed down the road to the arena.

It is important to note at this stage that on the way to the arena, two members learnt they require extra tuition regarding kilt security. LOL. These members have just made band trivial pursuit history. Good on ya boys. LOL

Anyway, once the band arrived at the oval we were involved in the mass band welcome along with 24 other bands. Watching from the side lines were approximate 15,000 people who cheered on the participants. On completion of the welcome, our members had a couple of hours to soak in the event by watching Highland Dancers, Highand sports including strong man events, live entertainment (other bands) and browse through a multitude of stalls before re-entering the arena and entertaining the crowd with our own unique musical style.

The event concluded with the closing ceremony attended by all 25 bands who played a final spine chilling version of Amazing Grace, Scotland the Brave and Black Bear.

Overall we should all be justifiably proud of all who attended the event and we look forward to being invited and attending the next Highland Gathering at Bundanoon planned for April 6th 2024. ant to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
