Penrith Sunday Service
Penrith Sunday Service
This afternoon the Penrith RSL Pipes and Drums led the annual ANZAC Sunday Service March hosted by the Penrith RSL sub-Branch. The march commenced at 2.45pm and moved down Castlereagh Street and onto High Street to Memory Park where a commemorative service was held.
It was a fantastic event attended by between 500 and 1000 people. Also in attendance were local dignitaries, Veterans and current serving members, Navy, Army and Airforce Cadet units and local sporting clubs. It was also a great turnout by the general public.
Penrith Pipes and Drums did an outstanding job and I feel have definitely embedded themselves into the local community. The band still as three ANZAC events to attend on Thursday 25th April including the majority of the band going into the Sydney CBD, the Penrith Dawn Service and the Emu Plains ANZAC Community Service.
ODE OF REMEMBRANCE
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of Limb, true of eye, steady and aglow,
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted.
They fell with their faces to the foe.
“They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them”
“LEST WE FORGET”
